OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team travels to Mobile, Ala., Saturday for a match against 48th-ranked South Alabama. The match will begin at 11 a.m., at the Bruce David Lubel Memorial Tennis Courts.
The Lady Rebels have won three straight since dropping their season opener for a 3-1 record. They are coming off solid outings against Big 12 foes Kansas (6-1) and Kansas State (7-0) last weekend.
Co-captains Chloe Carlotti and Virginia Tomatis lead the team. Carlotti, ranked No. 32 in the nation, has won six of her last seven matches and comes in with a 11-4 record. Tomatis, who owns a 12-4 record, has won six in a row and seven of her last eight.
"Every time these two teams meet, it's always a close match, and I don't expect any different this year," head coach Mark Beyers said. "This will be our first outdoor match of the season, so it will be a challenge for our younger players."
South Alabama enters the weekend with a 3-0 match. All three of their victories came at home, dominating two of those matches with straight sweeps. The Jaguars toppled Southern University (Baton Rouge) and University of New Orleans 7-0. South Alabama also won 6-1 over Southeastern Louisiana University. The Jaguars played Arizona Friday morning.
Ole Miss defeated South Alabama 5-2 last year in Oxford. The last time the two teams met in Mobile (2003), the Jaguars won by a narrow 4-3 margin.
