OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's tennis team, who moved up to No. 51 in this week's ITA national rankings, will step out of conference play to host Tennessee Tech Thursday at Noon at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center. Incase of inclement weather, the match will be played at the Gillom Sports Center.
The Lady Rebels come into the match with an 8-4 overall record, but could easily be 11-1. Three of the Lady Rebels' four losses have been by a combined three points. Ole Miss dropped a 4-3 decision to South Florida in the season opener and then lost 4-3 to South Alabama on the road and 4-3 to No. 4 Kentucky in Lexington.
After dropping their first two SEC matches on the road two weeks ago, the Lady Rebels returned home to post wins over No. 26 Alabama and No. 73 Auburn to even their league record. Ole Miss owns a 7-1 record at home this season.
While the top of the lineup is a combined 23-9, the Lady Rebel freshmen are getting it done in the bottom half of the lineup. Preethi Subramanian joined the team in January and has gone 9-1 in dual matches, 8-1 at No. 6 singles. Mimi Renaudin owns an 8-3 dual match record, 7-2 at No. 5. Nika Koukhartchouk is 7-3 in dual matches, 5-2 at No. 4 singles. All three have combined for a 10-2 record in the SEC thus far.
Tennessee Tech comes into the match with a 1-1 record. They have not played since Feb. 25 when they lost to Arkansas State 5-2. The Golden Eaglettes defeated Memphis, 6-1, to open the season. Junior Marina Tasheva leads Tennessee Tech with a 6-6 record, 1-1 at No. 1 singles. Their No. 1 doubles team of Tasheva and Alet Boonzaaier is 6-4 overall and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. The Lady Rebels defeated Tennessee Tech 7-0 last year in Oxford.
Following the Tennessee Tech match, the Lady Rebels will be off until next weekend when they welcome No. 23 Tennessee and No. 2 Georgia.
