OXFORD, Miss. - Claes Lindholm, a four-year letterwinner for the Ole Miss men's tennis team and Sabrina Peppl, a four-year letterwinner for the Lady Rebels, each received Banking and Finance Council Honor Awards at the fourth annual University of Mississippi Banking and Finance Symposium Tuesday.
Lindholm and Peppl were chosen to receive $1,000 scholarships by the Banking and Finance Council. The council is a committee comprised of senior level executives in the banking and finance world. Selection for the awards is based on merit.
Lindholm completed an outstanding career for the Rebels in 2004, earning All-SEC honors for the second time.
One of the Rebels' most consistent performers, Lindholm boasted a career dual match record of 58-10 in singles and finished with a 26-7 career record in the SEC, while helping the Rebels capture the overall SEC Championship in 2004 and their third consecutive SEC Western Division title. Lindholm was a huge factor in the Rebels reaching the NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" in 2002 and the Elite Eight in 2003 as well as finishing top 10 nationally all three of his years, including a final national ranking of No. 5 in 2004.
Off the court, Lindholm was named an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2003 and 2004 and made the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 2004. A member of the Rebel 3.0 Club, Lindholm made either the Chancellor's Honor Roll or Dean's List every semester.
"We are proud of Claes for receiving this award," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "He is the epitome of the word student-athlete. He did an outstanding job for us on the court while maintaining excellent standing in the classroom."
Peppl was a four-year starter for the Lady Rebels, helping the team to consecutive appearances in the NCAA Team Championships in 2001 and 2002. She was a member of four straight Lady Rebel squads to earn ITA All-Academic Team honors.
A regular on the Chancellor's Honor Roll and Dean's List, Peppl was named an ITA Scholar Athlete her senior year (2004).
"This is a tremendous honor for Sabrina and we are proud of her," Lady Rebel head coach Mark Beyers said. "She always worked extremely hard and did a great job of balancing tennis and her schoolwork."
The nationally recognized forum, sponsored by the Banking and Finance program in the School of Business Administration, brings together a roster of influential business and finance professionals and financiers to discuss compliance and commercial banking.
