OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss soccer team matches up with in-state foe Southern Miss Friday at 4:30 p.m. CT at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland, Miss.

The match is part of the MLS Challenge, sponsored by the Mississippi United Soccer Club, and will be followed by Major League Soccer teams the NY/NJ MetroStars and the Chicago Fire battling at 7:30 p.m.

"We are excited to be a part of the MLS Challenge and face a very competitive Southern Miss team," said Rebel head coach Steve Holeman. "This is the highlight of our spring schedule. It will be a wonderful opportunity for our team to play in front of a large crowd and also watch some of the nation's top professional players on the men's side."

Ole Miss has a 1-0-1 mark thus far during the spring offseason. In last month's Fury College Showcase in Memphis, the Rebels dismantled the Japan College All-Stars 6-0 and tied two-time Conference USA champion UAB 1-1.

Christine Liberto tallied two goals and an assist in the first weekend of exhibition play, while Kelly Renie also scored twice. Chrissi Strini collected three assists.

The Rebels and Golden Eagles also faced off in last spring's Mississippi United Spring Classic in Ridgeland, with Ole Miss ruling 5-0. Renie and Brittney Potts each netted a pair of goals.
