PINEHURST, N.C. - The Ole Miss women's golf team captured ninth place after the third round of the Pinehurst Challenge Tuesday at Pinehurst #8 golf course.

The Lady Rebels climbed from a tie for 12th after the first round to 10th after the second round up to their ninth-place finish.

"Finishing in the middle of the field was not a disappointing tournament," said Ole Miss head coach Meghan Bolger. "We definitely could have played better, but we are still making the small mental errors that are leading to higher scores that we just cannot afford at this time."

Sophomore Katie Davidson (79-76-79--234) finished in a tie for 10th as the Lady Rebels' top finisher.

Senior Nikki Hadd improved her score each round, finishing with an 83-80-76--239, which was good for a tie for 25th.

Washington State won the tournament with a 918 score for the 54 holes. The two other SEC teams who participated in the 18-team tourney were Mississippi State and Kentucky, who finished fourth and 15th, respectively.

Other Lady Rebel competitors included junior Sarah Kate Cousart (82-81-77--240), junior Laura Evans (78-79-88--245) and freshman Katherine Jones (85-82-91--258).

Ole Miss is idle until next weekend, March 18-20, when they travel down to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic among some of the nation's top competition.

"We are looking forward to spring break, having a few days off, then heading to LSU and Georgia, and then the SEC Championships next month," Bolger said.
