CINCINNATI - Ole Miss split a pair of spring soccer exhibitions at the Blue Chip Showcase in Cincinnati on Saturday, blanking Louisville 2-0 and falling to Vanderbilt 1-0.
In the feature match of the evening at the University of Cincinnati, the Rebels registered their third shutout of the offseason against a Cardinal squad that was coming off a 12-5-2 fall campaign.
Kristal Menard provided the game's first score in the final minute of the opening half, as Chrissy Strini set her up for a deep shot to the upper corner that forced the UL goalkeeper into the net. Ole Miss put the contest away midway through the second half, as Lyndsey Williams sent a free kick from midfield that Brittney Potts flicked behind the keeper for her second goal of the spring.
The match with the SEC-rival Commdores was staged at Xavier University earlier in the day and marked the Rebels' first loss of the spring. Ole Miss is now 4-1-1 in full-squad action this exhibition season.
"It was great to be a part of the college portion of the Blue Chip Showcase," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "We had two quality matches against Vanderbilt and Louisville and played well in both. This weekend was a great challenge for us and made us better as a team. I think we made some progress in the new system we are playing and saw some success on both sides of the ball."
The Rebels' final action of the spring will be the Ole Miss Club Team Invitational this Saturday in Oxford.
