OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss has inked its first European-born soccer player, as the Rebels have received a national letter of intent from Mirfield, England's Stacey Emmonds, as announced by head coach Steve Holeman. The midfielder will be eligible for the upcoming 2005 season.

"We are excited to add Stacey's name to our list of incoming freshman," Holeman said. "She is a true left-sided player and reads the game extremely well. She brings a lot of soccer knowledge with her and has the ability to come in right away and compete at a very high level.

"Stacey is the first player we have signed from England, and we are looking forward to coaching her and seeing her develop within our system."

Emmonds attends the National Women's Football Academy, where she was named the Sports Person of the Year. She helped lead her team to the British school's league and cup the past two years, serving as captain this season. Emmonds has also played for and captained the county team.

In addition, she was a member of the county squash team, rising as high as third individually in the national rankings.

Emmonds is Ole Miss' ninth signee for the 2005 campaign, joining Amy Bayles (5-7, F, Florence, Ala.), Christine Breaux (5-3, D/M, Gonzales, La.), Austin Brown (5-6, D, Lucedale, Miss.), Jennifer Hance (5-11, M, Sugar Land, Texas), Kellye LaVera (5-6, M/F, Louisville, Ky.), Leslie Robichaux (5-4, M, Geismar, La.), Brook Thebeau (5-1, D/F) and Amanda Verkin (5-5, D/M, Sugar Land, Texas).
