OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss soccer team had seven of its players named to the ODP Under-19 Region III Pool - more than any other college squad.
Among the Rebels selected were rising sophomores Chrissy Strini and Megan Vickery and incoming freshmen Amy Bayles, Christine Breaux, Austin Brown, Jennifer Hance and Leslie Robichaux.
Six of the players have previously served in the Region Pool, which compiles the top youth talent from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Texas and Tennessee.
A total of 25 players were chosen for the U-19 group based on their play at Region III camp, which took place from July 5-9 in Montevallo, Ala. The camp featured three matches against the visiting Mexican U-20 National team as training for both units. After four days of matches and training, the Region staff announced the pool.
"It's great for these players to be recognized for their hard work and commitment to the game," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "It was also a wonderful opportunity for them to play against the U-20 Mexican National team."
Strini, a two-time ODP National Camp participant, has been named to the Pool three times and advanced to the Region Team in 2003. Vickery is also a three-year member of the Region Pool and was a member of the 2001 National Pool.
Louisiana natives Robichaux and Breaux have both played on the Region Team, and Robichaux has spent time in the National Pool. Hance is a three-time Region Pool pick.
