OXFORD, Miss. - The 23 members of the 2005 Ole Miss Soccer squad reported to campus on Tuesday and held their first preseason practice on Wednesday evening with a lot of excitement and anticipation for the fall season.

"It's a real exciting time for us," said head coach Steve Holeman, who is entering his 11th season as the only soccer head coach in Ole Miss history. "There has been a lot of anticipation coming into this fall. The returning players have worked really hard in the off-season and had a successful spring season. And our freshman class is probably one of the most talented recruiting classes we've ever had."

Among the 10 newcomers reporting to campus was freshman Caitlin Mizell from Atlanta. The 5-5 forward/midfielder from Marist High School was a member of two Georgia state championship teams and was named offensive player of the week in 2004. Mizell competed with the Tophat OS Gold club team and was an ODP team member from 1999-2003.

The 2004 club capped off their season with an appearance in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament by virtue of defeating tournament host and nationally-ranked No. 9 Auburn 3-0 in the opening round. It was their third appearance in the SEC Tournament semifinals in the last four years.

This season's team features 13 returning letterwinners, including eight of last year's 11 starters. Highlighting the group are All-SEC performers Brittney Potts (forward), Kelly Renie (forward) and Lyndsey Williams (defender).

Following an exhibition match at Oklahoma State on Aug. 20, the Rebels will kick off their 2005 campaign against Tennessee Tech on Friday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium in Oxford.

Season passes and individual match tickets will be available through the Ole Miss Ticket Office at (662) 915-7167.
