OXFORD, Miss. - The No. 11 Florida State Seminoles (6-0-0) edged the Ole Miss Rebel soccer team (4-2-0) 1-0 in a noon matchup on Sunday at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.

The defensive battle was decided at the 59:28 mark in the second half when the Seminoles' Viola Odebrecht scored on a header into the right corner of the net. She was assisted by Sel Kuralay after Kuralay's feed off a free kick.

Ole Miss played close with the talent-laden Florida State club throughout the first half to go into the locker room scoreless. The Seminoles have a number of national team members on their roster, including India Trotter (U.S.A.), Sel Kuralay (Australia), Viola Odebrecht (Germany), Katrin Schmidt (Germany), Kirsten Van de Ven (Netherlands) and Mami Yamaguchi (Japan).

"It always hurts to lose these, but Florida State's a great team," said Ole Miss head coach Steve Holeman. "I felt we played well at times in the first 30 minutes, but they made all the right adjustments at halftime and came out ready to go. They're just a great team. They have players on another level. When you've got girls who have played on the national team, you know your team is very talented."

On the day, Florida State out-shot the Rebels 13-4, while Ole Miss had six saves to the Seminoles' 3. Ole Miss had two more fouls than Florida State at 10-8.

The four shots tied the Rebels' low total of the season. They had four shots in the 2-0 win over UCF on Sept. 3.

Sophomore Rebel goalkeepers Ann Shelton and Megan Vickery again split time in goal, as Shelton played the first half and Vickery the second. Shelton recorded three saves and did not allow a goal, while Vickery snagged two saves.

The Rebels will travel to Memphis for a 7 p.m contest on Tuesday before returning to Oxford for a 7 p.m. matchup against Charlotte on Friday.
