Rebel Netters Win Six Of Seven Matches At Southern Intercollegiate

The Ole Miss men's tennis team had a successful first day at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships Friday, winning six of seven matches played at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
In Division I singles, Ole Miss will have four players in the second round. Senior Juan Pablo Di Cesare and sophomore Erling Tveit both had first round byes. Tveit will face Ryan Preston of Vanderbilt Saturday morning, and Di Cesare will meet the No. 6 seed, Jonathan Stokke of Duke, in the second round.
In first round action, junior Eric Claesson downed Rodrigo Santos of Winthrop 6-3, 6-2. He will square off against the No. 4 seed, Damar Johnson of Louisville, in the second round.
Sophomore Bram ten Berge held off South Carolina's Geraldo Knorr, in two tiebreakers. ten Berge won the first tiebreaker 7-4 and then claimed the second one 7-5, setting up a second round meeting against the tournament's No. 7 seed, Oscar Posada of East Tennessee State.
The Rebs only lost one match in Division I singles, as Jakob Klaeson fell to Slavko Radman of Louisville, 6-2, 6-3.
In Division II singles, newcomer Christopher Rea dominated Auburn's Jay Swamidass, 6-1, 6-0. With his second round opponent withdrawing from the tournament Friday, Rea advances to the third round.
The Rebels were victorious in all three doubles matches. The tournament's No. 2 seed, Tveit and Claesson downed South Carolina's Knorr and Yevgeny Supeko 8-3. They will face a team from Stetson in the second round, which will be played Sunday.
Di Cesare and Klaeson defeated Olivares/Serrano of ETSU 8-4 and will face Louisville's Johnson and Radman in the second round.
ten Berge and Rea beat Jordan Magarik and Ryan Preston of Vanderbilt 8-3. They will face the No. 1 seeds, from Georgia Tech, in the second round.
