Ole Miss Netters Advance To Quarterfinals At Southern Intercollegiate

ATHENS, Ga. - Three members of the Ole Miss men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships Saturday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Sophomore Bram ten Berge and junior Eric Claesson both won two matches to reach the quarterfinals in Division I singles, while newcomer Christopher Rea advanced to the final eight of Division II singles.
Claesson, ranked No. 110 in the nation, defeated the No. 4 seed, Damar Johnson of Louisville, 7-6, 7-5 in the second round. In the third round, Claesson came back to beat Collin Purcell of Georgia, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2. Claesson will play Alex Schweizer in the quarterfinals Sunday.
ten Berge defeated Maciek Sykut of Florida State, 7-6(4), 6-2 in the second round and then won a thrilling three-setter against Georgia's Matic Omerzel in the third round. Against Omerzel, ten Berge lost the first set 6-4 and the won two tiebreakers to reach the quarterfinals. He will face Yevgeny Supeko of South Carolina in the quarterfinals.
In Division II singles, Rea had a walkover to reach the third round, where he faced Stefan Dumitrescu of South Carolina. Rea lost the first set 7-6 and then won the second 6-3, before Dumitrescu retired. He will meet Kiril Tcherveniachki of Tennessee in the quarterfinals.
Sunday will continue with two rounds of singles and two rounds of doubles.
