ORLANDO, Fla. - Sophomores Megan Vickery and Ann Shelton combined to shut out Kent State 2-0 Monday morning on the final day of the Central Florida Invitational. The Rebels (4-0-0) defeated host, No. 27 nationally-ranked Central Florida, 2-0 on Friday.

All-SEC senior Kelly Renie returned to action for the first time this season, and put the Rebels on board in the 11th minute off a corner kick by fellow senior Hillary Beckman and an assist by sophomore Chrissy Strini.

The Rebels struggled early on with the style of play from Kent State (2-2), who uses a sweeper. They adjusted and held on to the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

For the fourth consecutive game, a freshman stepped up big for the Rebels, as Amy Bayles of Florence, Ala., sealed the win with a goal in the 76th minute. Sophomore Amy Gill assisted on the goal.

"We are happy to come away from our first road trip with two wins," head coach Steve Holeman said. "We faced a different system today, with Kent State, which we had to adjust to.

"In the second half, we were able to play our game, keep the ball and maintain control throughout. This is the fourth game in a row where we've had a freshman score a goal for us. It shows our tremendous depth."

The Rebels led the UCF Invitational with five players on the All-Tournament Team. Freshman Jennifer Hance was named the tournament's Offensive Most Valuable Player. Freshman defender Christine Breaux, Gill, Vickery and freshman Stacey Emmonds joined Hance on the All-Tournament Team.

Both Vickery and Shelton had three saves in the shutout with Shelton picking up her second win in a row.

Ole Miss will return to Oxford for a Thursday, Sept. 8 match against Saint Louis, followed by a much-anticipated non-conference game against Florida State set for Sunday, Sept. 11.
