Ole Miss Rifle Falls to Army

West Point, N.Y. - The Ole Miss Rebel rifle team fell to the defending NCAA National Champion Army Cadets on Sunday by an aggregate score of 4670-4629.
Junior All-America Jennifer Lorenzen and senior Megan Sandage tied for the team lead in the smallbore with a final score of 582. As a team Ole Miss scored 2310 points in the smallbore competition. Sophomore Casey Phillips set a career high with a score of 575 in the smallbore.
Lorenzen also led the Rebels in the air rifle competition with a final score of 583. Senior Natasha Phillips stepped in for sophomore Shannon Wilson who is currently competing in the Bavarian Air Rifle Championships, in Munich, Germany, as part of the U.S. National Development Team. Phillips set a career high with a score of 580 in the air rifle. Ole Miss scored a team total of 2319 in the air rifle.
"Overall it was a positive weekend," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "We shot well, but came up just short against a very good Army team. We were without one of our best shooter, Shannon Wilson, but I was proud of Casey and Natasha, because they stepped up in her absence and gave us great depth."
The Rebels head to Murray, Ky., on Jan. 28 for the Withrow Invitational. Participating schools include Ole Miss and host school Murray State.
