Rebel Netter Advances At All-American Qualifying

TULSA, Okla. The Ole Miss men’s tennis team went 1-for-3 in the first round of qualifying singles at the ITA Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships Monday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

 

Junior Jakob Klaeson defeated Tyler Brown of California, ranked No. 62 in the nation, 3-6, 6-3, 2-1 ret., to advance to the second round where he will face Peter Bjork of Kentucky at 9 a.m. Tuesday.  He will need to win two more matches to join fellow teammate Erling Tveit in the Main Draw, which begins Thursday.

 

Robbye Poole, who came in hot at 6-1, fell to Ivan Puchkarov of Oklahoma State, 7-6(1), 6-0.  Puchkarov is ranked No. 61.  Bram ten Berge dropped his first-round match to William and Mary’s Alex Cojanu, 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-0.

 

Doubles qualifying begins Tuesday with ten Berge and Chris Rea competing to join teammates Klaeson and Poole and Tveit and Fredrik Aarum in the main draw.

 

The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2006-07 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
