Ole Miss Rifle Falls To Jacksonville State and Kentucky

OXFORD, Miss. All-American senior Jennifer Lorenzen took home top honors in the smallbore competition with a season-high score of 582, but it was not enough as the Ole Miss rifle team fell to Jacksonville State and Kentucky in a dual-match.

Ole Miss, who hosted the match at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center, finished with a team score of 4579, which was the Rebels highest team total of the year. Kentucky won the match with a team score of 4634 and Jacksonville State finished with an aggregate score of 4632.

In addition to Lorenzen, Jessica Hornby (567), Shannon Wilson (568) and Mara Polonsky (550) competed in the smallbore. Ole Miss finished with a team score of 2267 in the smallbore.

All-American junior Shannon Wilson finished fourth in the individual air rifle with a score of 585. Jennifer Lorenzen (578), Jessica Hornby (576) and Mara Polonsky (573) also shot the air rifle for the Rebels. Ole Miss finished with an aggregate air rifle score of 2312.

“We are not quite were we need to be yet, but our scores are improving,” said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. “We need to continue to work hard and put ourselves in a situation to be successful at the end of the year.”

Ole Miss travels to El Paso, Texas on Nov. 4 to face the University of Texas-El Paso.
