OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s golf team will conclude the fall this weekend at the Derby Invitational hosted by Auburn at the Par 72, 6,310-yard Auburn University Club.  The three-day tournament begins Friday and will conclude Sunday with the final round.

Regarded as one of the toughest tournaments of the year, the Derby Invitational includes eight teams from the Southeastern Conference, including No. 6 Auburn and No. 10 Tennessee.  The rest of the field includes North Carolina (No. 15), Florida State (No. 17), Florida (No. 20), LSU (No. 28), Furman (No. 31), South Carolina (No. 37), Alabama (No. 42), Birmingham Southern, Central Florida, Nebraska, Baylor, Kansas and Mississippi State.

The Lady Rebels sent senior Katie Davidson, junior Katherine Jones, sophomore J.J. Flynn, sophomore Dori Carter and freshman Sara Grantham to the tournament.  All but Flynn have competed in every tournament this fall, while Flynn will be making her third tourney appearance.

Carter leads the team with one top 10 and two top 20 finishes.  Davidson has two top 20 finishes, Jones has one top 20 showing, and Grantham owns a top 10 finish.

The participating players and assistant coach Kelly Anders stopped in West Point, Miss., Wednesday afternoon on their way to Auburn, to catch head coach Meghan Bolger in action during her semifinal match at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

The players got a chance to see what Bolger goes through at competitions, getting a different perspective on the game.

“It was a little different putting the pressure on her this time,” said Carter. “But it was nice to see her play some serious golf. It will definitely get us motivated for our tournament this weekend.”
