Rebel Netters Advance To Qualifying Finals At All-American

10/3/2006 | Men's Tennis

TULSA, Okla. Ole Miss men’s tennis junior Jakob Klaeson advanced to the final round of qualifying at the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.   Junior Bram ten Berge and senior Chris Rea teamed up to advance to the final of doubles qualifying.

Klaeson held off Kentucky senior Peter Bjork, in two hotly-contested sets, 7-6(4), 7-5 to advance to the final round against Nejc Smole of Denver.  Bjork transferred to Kentucky from Colorado (after they dropped men’s tennis) where he played No. 1 singles and earned All-Big 12 honors.  If Klaeson beats Smole, he will join teammate Erling Tveit in the main draw, which starts Thursday.

In the doubles, ten Berge and Rea posted back-to-back wins to secure a spot in Wednesday’s final.  In the first round, the pair beat BYU’s Dominick Kaufhold and James Ludlow, 8-5.  They followed that up with an 8-6 win over Stanford’s Blake Muller and Richard Wire.   One more victory, and ten Berge and Rea will join their teammates Tveit and Fredrik Aarum and Klaeson and Robbye Poole in the main draw doubles.
