Sanders Leads Rebels Past Ragin' Cajuns

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Clarence Sanders scored 22 points to lead Ole Miss to a 69-54 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday.

Sanders scored 15 of those points in the second half, including eight points he put on the board in a span of just 1:06, to help the Rebels extend a 46-40 lead to 54-40.

Ole Miss improves to 2-0 for the first time in six years. It was just the second time Ole Miss beat Louisiana-Lafayette (0-2) in six tries.

The Rebels also got 12 points from Bam Doyne and Kenny Williams and 10 points from Justin Cerasoli. Williams led Ole Miss with eight rebounds.

David Dees led Louisiana-Lafayette with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ross Mouton, who scored 26 points in the Ragin Cajuns' season-opener, scored 13 points on 6-of-20 shooting.

The Rebels hit 44 percent from the floor and held the Ragin Cajuns to 34.5 percent.

Louisiana-Lafayette held an early 8-7 lead before Williams scored six points to spark a 10-0 Ole Miss run. The Ragin Cajuns cut the gap to 25-22 before a 9-0 Rebel run gave Ole Miss a 34-22 halftime lead. The closest the Ragin Cajuns got in the second half was five points.

Ole Miss was without starting point guard Todd Abernethy, who suffered a concussion in the season opener.
