COLUMBUS, Ohio.. Ole Miss men’s tennis player Erling Tveit advanced to the second round at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships Thursday evening at the Racquet Club.

Tveit, seeded No. 8 in the 32-player draw, downed Utah’s Zach Ganger, 6-1, 6-4.  Ganger qualified for the national indoor by winning the Mountain Regional Championships back in October.

A 2006 NCAA Semifinalist, Tveit will face Pepperdine’s Andre Begemann in the second round Friday not before 12:30 p.m.    Begemann defeated Jared Drucker of Columbia, 6-4, 7-6(4) in the first round.

Tveit was one of five of the top eight seeds in the field to advance to the second round.  The Nos. 3, 5 and 6 seeds all fell in the first round.  This marks the second year in a row for Tveit to advance to the second round at the national indoor.

Friday’s schedule of play includes two rounds of singles.  Should Tveit win his round of 16 match he would play in the quarterfinals Friday evening.
