Three Rebel Soccer Players Named Academic All-District

11/3/2006 | Soccer

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss junior goalkeeper Ann Shelton, junior midfielder Chrissy Strini and senior defender Lyndsey Williams were all named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI second team, as announced this week by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Each Rebel makes a repeat performance on the Academic All-District squad. Shelton and Strini were named to the second team last year, while Williams was a first-team member last year after earning second-team accolades in 2004.

The Rebels' starting goalkeeper, Shelton led the Southeastern Conference in league play with a 0.41 goals-against average this season, helping Ole Miss tie Kentucky for the fewest goals allowed in SEC play with five. The marketing communications major from Tullahoma, Tenn., boasts a 3.72 grade point average through her first three years of college and is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

A native of Cordova, Tenn., Strini was honored first team All-SEC for the second year in a row after tying for the league lead with eight assists, to go with one goal. Strini has a 3.82 GPA as an exercise science major and is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Williams makes her third appearance on the Academic All-District squad. The four-year starter and 2004 All-SEC pick from Germantown, Tenn., was recently named the SEC Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year. She has amassed a 3.90 GPA in banking and finance and is a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

The trio marks the 23rd, 24th and 25th Academic All-District selections all-time for the Rebel soccer program.
