11/7/2006 | Soccer

OXFORD, Miss. A pair of Ole Miss freshmen received national honors this week, as defender Danielle Johnson and forward Hannah Weatherly were both named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Women’s College All-Rookie second team.

Johnson previously earned All-SEC second team honors as well as SEC All-Freshman accolades after helping the Rebels finish first in the Southeastern Conference with a 0.41 goals-against average and just five goals allowed in SEC play. The rookie from Baton Rouge, La., also notched five goals and one assist for Ole Miss in 2006. Three of those goals came in her hat trick performance in the 4-1 win over Arkansas-Little Rock.

A local product from Tupelo, Miss., Weatherly lived up to the hype surrounding her debut season with the Red and Blue. She ranked third on the team with 14 points, including six goals and two assists. A handful of Weatherly’s goals came in some of the biggest games for the Rebels in 2006, including scores vs. No. 3 Notre Dame, Memphis, SMU and No. 25 Georgia. Weatherly led the Rebels with three goals in conference play.

Top Drawer Soccer also announced its national team of the season this week and tabbed junior midfielder Chrissy Strini as a member of the fifth team. The All-SEC first team selection tied for the SEC lead with eight assists and added one goal in 2006.
