OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss junior midfielder Chrissy Strini and freshman defender Danielle Johnson received more postseason honors this week for their outstanding play during the 2006 season. On Tuesday, Strini was named second team All-Region by Soccer Buzz, while Johnson was tabbed third team All-Region and Central Region All-Freshman by the same publication.
Last week, Strini also earned NSCAA/adidas third team All-Region honors.
A Cordova, Tenn., native, Strini tied for the Southeastern Conference lead with eight assists this season on her way to being named first team All-SEC for the second straight year. The All-Region selection is also her second straight.
A versatile athlete from Baton Rouge, La., Johnson showed off her skills on all sides of the field during her rookie campaign. She ranked fourth on the team with five goals and 11 points, while contributing most of her minutes to an Ole Miss defense that ranked first in the SEC with five goals allowed and a 0.41 goals-against average in league play. For her play, Johnson earned second team All-SEC honors and SEC All-Freshman team recognition.
An Ole Miss player has received All-Region distinction 18 times in the program’s 12-year history. The Rebels will return four former All-Region selections to the 2007 team.
