GARC Awards Announced

OXFORD, Miss. - The Great America Rifle Conference awards were handed out at the conference's annual awards banquet on Friday night, held at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.

Ole Miss sophomore Shannon Wilson was named second team all-conference in the air rifle. She was also named honorable mention in the combined event. Junior Jennifer Lorenzen also picked up honorable mention honor in the smallbore competition. Senior Casey Phillips was named the GARC Scholar Athlete of the Year for Ole Miss.

The Rebels were also honored with the conference's sportsmanship award, which recognizes sportsmanship and fair play.

Christopher Abalo of Army was named the conference's Shooter of the Year. Jason Dardas of Kentucky picked up Rookie of the Year honors, while Misty Chanek of Nebraska was named Senior of the Year.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers were crown as regular season championships, and head coach Launi Meili was honored as the conference's Coach of the Year.

The GARC Championships begin on Saturday morning at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center with the smallbore event and run through Sunday afternoon.
