Lorenzen Places Second In Air Rifle At GARC Championships

OXFORD, Miss. - Junior All-America Jennifer Lorenzen turned in an air rifle score of 589 to finish second overall at the Great America Rifle Conference Championships. The Ole Miss rifle team could not capitalize on Lorenzen's shooting and placed fifth at the conference championships.
"Jennifer is just a fantastic competitor," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "She had a great day of shooting. She just came one point short of winning the conference."
In addition to Lorenzen's sharp shooting, sophomore Shannon Wilson turned in an air rifle score of 587. Wilson finished seventh overall. Others shooting for the Rebels included Samantha Leach (578), Jessica Hornby (578), Mara Polonksy (577), Natasha Phillips (576), Megan Sandage (574), Natalie Coughlin (574), Casey Phillips (569), Pam Smith (550) and Jessica McClain (528).
"We started great in the morning relays," said Boothe. "We just didn't finish as well as we started. We were close on several points, we just came up short."
The Rebels season is not over however. Ole Miss travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. on March 10, for the NCAA Championships. The Rebels will go up against three teams they faced at the GARC Championships. Army, Kentucky and Nebraska join Ole Miss as NCAA participants from the GARC.
"I see a few weaknesses we have to improve before the NCAA Championships," said Boothe. "We need to focus on our pressure training. We know what we have to do."
Ole Miss will participate in the NCAA Championships on March 10. The Rebels will compete against Alaska-Fairbanks, Army, Kentucky, Murray State, Navy and Nebraska for a national title.
