Todd Abernethy Named Academic All-District

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss' Todd Abernethy was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 men's basketball first team Thursday, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A junior guard from Carmel, Ind., Abernethy maintains a 3.44 GPA in Banking and Finance and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll each of the last two seasons.

The two-year team captain currently tops the Rebels in assists (58) and three-point percentage (.459) to go with a 9.5 scoring clip. Abernethy posted 22 points and 5 assists in leading Ole Miss past Mississippi State and totaled 16 points and 6 rebounds against Southern Utah. He was the 2005 SEC Sixth Man of the Year and a 2004 SEC All-Freshman Team pick.

Joining Abernethy on the District 6 first team is Oklahoma's Kevin Bookout, Texas A&M's Chris Walker, Sam Houston State's Ryan Bright and UT San Antonio's Kurt Attaway.

To be eligible for the Academic All-District team, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Founded by CoSIDA in 1952, the Academic All-America Teams program recognizes and awards our nation's premier college scholar-athletes for their ability to achieve excellence on the playing field and in the classroom.

By earning first team honors, Abernethy will now be placed on the national ballot for the Academic All-America team.
