Lady Rebels Take 17th At Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

ATHENS, Ga. - Freshman Dori Carter shot a 74 in the final round of play on Sunday at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic to move up into a tie for 56th place with junior Katie Davidson as the duo led Ole Miss to a 17th place team finish. Carter turned in a 85-82-74--241, while Davidson carded a 78-82-81--241 to lead the Lady Rebels.
"Dori had a great third round," said Ole Miss head coach Meghan Bolger. "Unfortunately it was too little too late. We struggled through most of this tournament, but we did play significantly better in the last round and that is encouraging."
Senior Sarah Kate Cousart was two strokes behind Carter and Davidson with a 80-84-79--243. Cousart tied for 62nd place. Senior Laura Evans finished tied for 75th place with her 81-85-81--247, while freshman Rachel Ingram rounded out the Lady Rebels scores with her 85-87-84--256. Ingram concluded the tournament in a tie for 91st place.
Georgia held off a strong final round by Auburn to post a two-stroke team victory. It was the third consecutive year the Lady Bulldogs have won their home tournament. The Lady Bulldogs posted a final-round team score 300, seven shots higher than Auburn's tally of 293, the lowest single-round score of the tournament. Georgia's three-day total of 903, however, was two shots better than the Tigers, seven better than third-place Wake Forest. Florida State (918) and Kent State rounded out the top five team finishers among the 18-team field.
Florida State's Caroline Westrup claimed medalist honors after her final-round, one-under 71 gave her a total of 221 (+5). Jenny Suh of Alabama and Amanda Goins of Wake Forest tied for second, one shot behind Westrup at 222.
The Lady Rebels will return to the links on Monday, April 3, when they travel to Stockbridge, Ga., for the John Kirk/Lady Panther Invitational.
