OXFORD, Miss. - Andy Kennedy's Ole Miss basketball team added a second signee Monday, inking forward Andy Ogide of Dallas, Ga., to a national letter of intent. The 6-foot-8, 215-pounder will be eligible for the 2006-07 season as a freshman.
"Andy Ogide represents everything we are looking for in a student-athlete at Ole Miss," Kennedy said. "He maintains a 3.8 GPA and ranks among the top in his graduating class. He is very athletic, and his skills will allow him to help us at multiple positions."
Rated the 11th-best prospect in the state of Georgia by Rivals.com, Ogide earned GACA first team All-State honors as a senior at Paulding County High School, where he played for coach Joel Boone. Ogide averaged 25.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 blocked shots and 2.0 steals in helping lead the Patriots to a 20-10 record this year.
He was named the 2006 Region 7-4A Player of the Year and picked up All-Region and Team MVP honors for the second straight season. As a junior, Ogide posted 20 points and 10 rebounds per game in nabbing honorable mention All-State distinction.
Ogide is joined in the Rebels' signing class by Kenny Williams, a 6-8, 240-pound rising junior forward from St. Petersburg Community College who inked with Ole Miss on Thursday. Also new to the Rebel lineup in 2006-07 will be Justin Cerasoli, who transferred to Ole Miss from Seton Hall last July. The 6-5, 180-pound guard may begin playing in the 2006-07 campaign with three years of eligibility remaining.
