Tveit, Claesson Earn All-America Honors

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss men's tennis players Erling Tveit and Eric Claesson earned ITA All-America honors for the 2006 season. The pair became the 18th and 19th All-America selections for the Rebels.
"Being named All-America is one of the greatest honors a student-athlete can achieve," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Erling and Eric did a great job leading our young squad to the SEC West Championship and the NCAA Final 16. They are very deserving of this honor and everyone is excited about the prospects for next year."
Players earn ITA All-America honors in singles and/or doubles based on their final Fila National Ranking, advancement at the NCAA Championships and/or seeding at the NCAA Championships. The ITA All-America Team for men dates back to 1957.
Tveit, a sophomore from Oslo, Norway, earned the honor in both singles and doubles. He advanced to the NCAA Final Four in singles before losing to the eventual national champion. The 2006 ITA Southeast Region Player to Watch and an All-SEC first team selection, Tveit finished the year ranked No. 12 in singles with a 35-9 overall record, 18-4 in his first season at No. 1 singles.
Claesson, a junior from Bastad, Sweden, earned All-America honors in doubles. He teamed with Tveit to finish the season ranked No. 7 in the nation, and the pair was seeded No. 5-8 in the NCAA Doubles Championship. Claesson finished the year ranked No. 42 in singles with a team-leading 36-13 overall record, 16-5 at No. 2.
