OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss Rebel soccer team will continue its eight-match home stand this weekend with the final matches of the non-conference slate, including a big 7 p.m. match with SMU on Friday, followed by Arkansas-Little Rock at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Rebel Sports Marketing will be offering some exciting promotions, including Military Appreciation Day on Friday and Youth League Day on Sunday. All members of the military and their families receive complimentary admission by showing their ID on Friday, while all kids wearing their Oxford Park Commission soccer jerseys will be admitted free and can go on the field during the national anthem on Sunday.

Ole Miss is 3-3 on the season after a pair of dominating victories last weekend, 3-1 over Southern Miss and 3-0 over Memphis.

Forward Hannah Weatherly and goalkeeper Ann Shelton received honors for their outstanding play against the regional foes.

Weatherly, a native of Tupelo, Miss., was tabbed the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after scoring a goal and adding two assists in the weekend contests. She is currently tied for second on the team with six points, including two goals and two assists.

Shelton, a junior from Tullahoma, Tenn., was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Team of the Week after allowing one goal to Southern Miss and notching her 10th career shutout and second of the season in the Memphis win. She also collected a season-high six saves against the Tigers.

Senior forward Brittney Potts leads the way offensively for the Rebels with eight points, including a team high-tying three goals, along with a pair of assists. Sophomore midfielder Jennifer Hance has also scored thrice, while junior midfielder Chrissy Strini tops the club and is tied for first in the SEC with four assists, which currently ranks 27th nationally.

The Rebels will look to extend their two-game winning streak this weekend before a grueling conference schedule begins with top 25-ranked visiting Tennessee and Georgia the next Friday and Sunday.

SMU will enter the contest at 3-2-1 on the young season and ranked No. 9 in the latest Central Region rankings. The Mustangs are coming off a 3-0 loss to top-ranked Notre Dame, whom the Rebels fell to 2-1 in their second game of the year. SMU blew out UT-San Antonio 5-0 in their previous match.

The Mustangs have been a national soccer power for several years. They have won their conference regular-season or tournament title every season since 1995 and have advanced to the NCAA Tournament each of the last five years. Ole Miss and SMU have never faced each other.

“We’ve known since we scheduled them that SMU would be one of our top non-conference matches,” said Rebel head coach Steve Holeman. “They are one of the best teams in our region. They have only given up goals this year to North Carolina and Notre Dame, so they are really tough to score on. This is a game with NCAA implications. If we want to get back to the Tournament, we need to beat teams like SMU.”

On Sunday, the Rebels will wrap up their non-conference slate against an Arkansas-Little Rock squad that enters the weekend with two wins and three losses. The Rebels are 4-1 all-time against the Trojans.

"This will be a good final game before our conference schedule begins," Holeman added. "It's going to be tough on Sunday after such a hard-fought match on Friday, and we know UALR will be trying to take advantage of that."
