OXFORD, Miss. After allowing one goal in 200 minutes of play last weekend against No. 8 Tennessee and No. 25 Georgia, Ole Miss junior goalkeeper Ann Shelton was named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week on Wednesday.
The Tullahoma, Tenn., native earns her second national team of the week honor of the season after being named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Team of the Week following wins over Southern Miss and Memphis.
Shelton, last year’s NCAA leader in goals-against average, gave up a second-half goal and nabbed a career-high nine saves against No. 8 Tennessee on Friday, helping the Rebels to a 1-1 tie. In Sunday’s 3-0 victory, she recorded her third shutout of the year and 11th of her Rebel career, moving her into sole possession of third place on the all-time Ole Miss chart.
She helped Ole Miss go unbeaten against consecutive top-25 opponents for the first time in school history and go unbeaten against the Lady Vols and Bulldogs for the first time. Before this year, the Rebels had not gone unbeaten in the first weekend of conference play since 2000.
A Rebel has now earned national team of the week honors seven times in program history, including five times since last season.
