Rebels Fall Short At No. 16 Tigers

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Tasmin Mitchell and Terry Martin combined for 22 second-half points to help No. 16 LSU hold off Ole Miss for a 62-55 victory on Wednesday night.
Mitchell scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half, while Martin had eight of his 15 after the break.
Clarence Sanders paced the Rebels (12-6, 1-3 Southeastern Conference) with 12 points, while Dwayne Curtis had all of 11 in the second half and reserve Kenny Williams added 10.
With the Tigers (13-4, 2-1) leading by one point and less than 5 minutes to play, Martin and Mitchell both hit big shots.
Martin knocked down his fourth 3-pointer of the game to give LSU a 50-46 lead with 4:44 remaining. On the Tigers' next possession, Mitchell hit a 3 that put them ahead 53-46. Ole Miss didn't get closer than five points the rest of the game.
Glen Davis added 11 points for LSU.
Two baskets by Mitchell gave LSU a 24-13 lead with 7:36 left in the opening half. The Tigers made just one field goal the rest of the half and had their lead trimmed to 29-23. Williams scored six points in the final 7 minutes as the Rebels got within six at halftime.
The Rebels fell behind 34-25 early in the second half but Curtis hit three field goals as Ole Miss got within 37-34.
Ole Miss got within one point three times in the second half, the last at 47-46 on a basket by Sanders with 5:08 left before Martin and Mitchell hit the 3-pointers.
