Ole Miss Rifle Finishes Third At Newkirk Invitational

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. The Ole Miss rifle team shot a team aggregate score of 4599, their highest score of the season, en route to a third place finish over the weekend at the Newkirk Invitational hosted by Tennessee Tech University.

The Rebels were led by junior All-America Shannon Wilson who turned in a school record mark of 591 in the air rifle. The score eclipsed the old mark of 590 held by Wilson and Senior All-America Jennifer Lorenzen.

“I thought we had a very solid weekend,” said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. “Slowly we are getting to where we want to be. We had some outstanding individual performances.  I'm pretty satisfied for the first match back after the break.  Now we know which direction to steer our training.  We look forward to next weekend with Murray State and UT-Martin.”

Other air scores for the Rebels included Jennifer Lorenzen (588), Jessica Hornby (574) and Mara Polonsky (567). Ole Miss finished with a team smallbore score of 2320.

Lorenzen led the Rebels in the smallbore with a score of 576. Other smallbore scores included Wilson (572), Polonsky (566) and Hornby (565). The Rebels finished with a team smallbore score of 2279.

Murray State won the overall team title with an aggregate score of 4649. Host school Tennessee Tech finished second overall with a score of 4601.

Next up the Rebels travel to Martin, Tenn. this weekend to face Murray State and host school UT-Martin.
