Rebel Basketball Opens Practice Friday As 2007-08 Season Approaches

10/11/2007 | Men's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. With the season opener just a month away, the Ole Miss men’s basketball team will begin its preseason workouts on Friday as the Rebels prepare to defend their 2007 Southeastern Conference Western Division title.

Ole Miss returns eight letterwinners and just two starters in senior big men Dwayne Curtis and Kenny Williams from last year’s squad that went 21-13 and won a school-record 16 home games with just one loss. Despite the graduation of All-SEC guards Todd Abernethy and Clarence Sanders and starting guard Bam Doyne, head coach Andy Kennedy’s squad has high hopes with the addition of a talented class of 10 newcomers that has been ranked as high as No. 9 in the country.

The NCAA allows teams to begin fall practice at 7 p.m. CT. on Friday, and the Rebels will hold their first preseason session at Oxford High School at that time.

While practices are closed to the public, fans will have a chance to meet the Ole Miss coaches and players and get posters, schedule cards and autographs in The Grove at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, prior to the Arkansas football game.

Ole Miss plays an exhibition game against Delta State on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. before kicking off the regular season with a Nov. 10 contest against Mississippi Valley State at 2 p.m. at Tad Smith Coliseum.
