Wellermann Captures ITA Southeast Regional Singles Title

Wellermann advanced to the final when teammate Erling Tveit, the tournament’s top seed withdrew due to a foot injury. The German native then defeated
“It was a great showing for the team, and a breakthrough tournament for Matthias,” head coach Billy Chadwick said. “Placing four Rebels in the final eight, having a doubles finalist and winning the singles, got the attention of the entire region.”
This marks the second time in three years for the Rebels to capture the ITA Southeast Regional singles title. Tveit won it in 2006.
Wellermann also teamed up with junior Bram ten Berge in the doubles final. In the morning the pair defeated Alexey Tsyrenov and Terence Nugent of
Ole Miss will have at least three players in the ITA National Indoor. Tveit and Jonas Berg gained automatic entry as the runner-up at the All-American Championships earlier this month. By virtue of his No. 7 national ranking and reaching the semifinals at this tournament, Tveit will be strongly considered for an at-large selection in singles.
The Southeast Region is regarded as the nation’s toughest region with 11 teams making the NCAA field of 64 in 2007.
The ITA National Indoor Championships, the second college major, will be held Nov. 1-4 in
ITA SOUTHEAST REGIONAL
