Dwayne Curtis Tabbed Preseason All-SEC

10/23/2007 | Men's Basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss center Dwayne Curtis has been named a preseason All-Southeastern Conference second team selection in a vote by a panel of SEC and national media members, the league office announced Tuesday.

The senior from Chicago averaged 12.2 points and 8.3 rebounds for last year’s SEC Western Division champions. At 6-foot-8 and 262 pounds, Curtis has been the Rebels’ top rebounder in each of his two years in Oxford. In his sophomore year he put up team highs of 13.6 points and 7.6 boards per game in garnering All-SEC honorable mention status from the Associated Press.

Tennessee was tabbed to win the league title, receiving 28 of 30 votes. Mississippi State garnered the other two votes. The Volunteers were also picked to win the East, while the Arkansas Razorbacks were projected to finish atop the West standings.

Ole Miss was picked to finish sixth in the SEC West by the panel. Last year the Rebels were also a preseason last-place pick by the media before streaking to the top of the final West standings and advancing to the second round of the NIT.

The Rebels will play a Nov. 2 exhibition game at 7 p.m. against Delta State before kicking off the regular season in Oxford with a Nov. 10 date with Mississippi Valley State. Tip-off for the season opener is slated for 2 p.m.
