10/5/2007 | Men's Tennis

TULSA, Okla.. Ole Miss men’s tennis players Erling Tveit and Jonas Berg teamed up to advance to the semifinals at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships Friday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The duo won two matches to move into the final four.  In the second round, they defeated Alex Cojanu and Keziel Juneau of William & Mary 8-5.  Then in the quarterfinals they downed wildcard entry, Sasha Ermakov and Ashwin Kumar of Harvard, 8-4.

Tveit and Berg improved to 8-0 on the season in their first year playing together.   They teamed up to win the Baylor Intercollegiate in September.

Their semifinal opponent will be Christian Rojmar and Bojan Szumanski from Texas Tech, who beat Tulsa’s Arnau Brugues and Ricardo Soriano, 9-7.

Earlier in the day, Tveit lost his third round singles match to Virginia’s Treat Huey.  Tveit won the first set 6-4, but then lost the second 6-3 and then retired down 3-0 in the third.  Tveit was seeded No. 7 in the tournament, while Huey was seeded Nos. 9-16.

The All-American is the year's first national championship, which features the best players in the nation.  The second national championship is the ITA National Indoor and the final major is the season-ending NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships.
