Ole Miss Duo Runner-Up In Doubles At All-American
10/7/2007 | Men's Tennis
The Cavalier duo won the first set 6-2, but then Tveit and Berg, ranked No. 20 in the nation, rallied to take a 5-4 lead in the second before losing 7-5.
“They were just the better team today,” said Berg, an All-SEC selection in 2007. “They played well and made a lot of returns. We knew we had to play really well to win, play every point well because they are so good. That puts a lot of pressure on you.”
Tveit and Berg are off to a great start this fall in their first year of playing together. They won the Baylor Invitational in September, and with their runner-up showing at the All-American, improved to 9-1 on the season.
“The All-American is the biggest tournament of the fall, and we are extremely proud of Erling and Jonas for reaching the finals,” head coach Billy Chadwick said. “One of the keys to the teams’ success this year will be our doubles play. By winning the Baylor Tournament and reaching the finals of this event, they (Erling and Jonas) are proving to be one of the top teams in the nation.”
Tveit, a two-time All-American in singles and doubles, teamed with former All-American Eric Claesson for a top 10 final national ranking in 2006 and 2007. Berg finished 17-8 overall in doubles last year, in his first season with the Rebels.
Up next for the Rebels will be the ITA Southeast Regional Tournament Oct. 19-21 in
