Andy Kennedy Postgame Quotes

11/13/2007 | Men's Basketball

On the game

“I told coach (Ronnie) Arrow after the game that was as close a game as I have seen. Obviously I can’t tell you that I sat there and enjoyed it. But, it was exactly what we needed. We haven’t really had a sense of urgency with our young guys. They don’t know when they need to step it up. We had too many errors. They didn’t know really when to attack. That is what you have to preach things like when to attack, when to lay back.”

On South Alabama’s team

“South Alabama has a good basketball team. They have made two post-season tournaments for a reason. Their seniors stepped up and made plays. Demetric Bennett had 28 points tonight. Every time Daon Merritt went to the basket, he got it. We had trouble with them. We won’t see another guy as fast as Merritt all season.”

On playing a quality opponent

“This was a good test for us. It enabled us to put guys in position that they hadn’t been in. Some of them are still trying to find their roles. We did some good things. In the second half, we did some bad things.”

On Eniel Polynice

“The good thing about this team is that we do have guys who can step up. In game one it was Trevor Gaskins, tonight it was Eniel Polynice. He doubled his stats tonight.”
