Ole Miss' Wellermann Ends Run At ITA National Indoor

COLUMBUS, Ohio. Ole Miss men’s tennis senior Matthias Wellermann lost his second round match at the ITA National Indoor Friday to Oklahoma State’s Oleksandr Nedovyesov, 6-4, 6-4, at the Racquet Club of Columbus.

The loss concludes a great fall for Wellermann, who went 10-2 and won the ITA Southeast Regional, the nation’s toughest region.  In the opening round of the tournament, he knocked off the No. 5 seed, Bryan Koniecko of Ohio State, who is ranked No. 6 in the nation.  That marked Wellermann’s highest win as a Rebel.

In singles consolation, senior Erling Tveit fell to Denes Lukacs of Baylor, 6-3, 6-1 to end his fall.  He lost a tough match in the first round, owning several match points before dropping the contest to Pepperdine’s Bassam Beidas, in a third-set tiebreaker.

He did team up with junior Jonas Berg to post an easy 8-1 victory in consolation doubles over Stanford’s Ted Kelly and Blake Muller.

Three members of the Rebel squad were in Tallahassee, Fla., competing in the Florida State Seminole Invitational.  Bram ten Berge and Kalle Norberg lost their first round matches, but Jakob Klaeson was victorious in the first round before losing in the second round.

Play continues on Saturday for the Rebels at the National Team Indoor and at the Seminole Invitational.
