Warren, Rebels Overpower Trojans 102-76

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) Chris Warren scored 23 points with 10 assists and sparked a 25-0 run early in the second half Tuesday as Ole Miss defeated Troy 102-76.

 

Dwayne Curtis had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Jermey Parnell scored 12, while Kenny Williams and Trevor Gaskins added 10 apiece for the Rebels. Ole Miss improved to 5-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season, when the Rebels advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.   

 

Troy (1-4) was led by Jerome Odem with 17 points as Justin Jonus and Brandon Hazzard added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

 

Ole Miss led 47-42 at halftime, closing with a 5-0 spurt in the final minute to take a lead they never surrendered. Warren had 10 first half points for the Rebels, who climbed out of an 8-0 hole in the opening two minutes.

 

Troy pulled within 47-44 on a O'Darien Bassett jumper to open the second half, before missing 10 consecutive shots. The Trojans, who shot 9-of-38, 23 percent, in the second half, went eight minutes without a basket.

 

The Rebels answered by scoring 25 consecutive points to build an insurmountable 72-44 lead with 11:24 left. Curtis had eight points and five rebounds in the run, capped by a dunk by Williams, to highlight the surge.

 

Ole Miss built its biggest lead, 102-67, on a layup by Parnell with 1:21 left. The Rebels shot 43-of-93 from, 46 percent, the field and dominated the boards by a 64-46 margin.
