Ole Miss Soccer Hands Out 2007 Team Awards

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss soccer team held its annual postseason banquet and presented team awards at the Indoor Practice Facility on campus Wednesday night.

 

The Rebels, who advanced to their 11th straight Southeastern Conference Tournament under head coach Steve Holeman, finished third in the SEC West with a 4-4-3 league record in 2007.

 

As voted on by the players, the Team MVP plaque was awarded to sophomore defender Danielle Johnson, who earned All-SEC first team honors following the season. The Baton Rouge, La., native also was voted the team’s Defensive MVP for the 2007 season.

 

Junior midfielder/forward Amy Bayles was voted the team’s Offensive MVP following an All-SEC second team season that saw her score three goals and dish out an assist. The Florence, Ala., native led the Rebels with 42 shot attempts on the year and ranked among the league leaders with 29 shots in SEC contests.

 

The Unsung Hero award was presented to junior defender Christine Breaux for her outstanding contribution to the team. Junior forward Stacey Emmonds was voted as the Red and Blue’s Most Dedicated Player.

 

The Rebel coaching staff also presented a plaque to a player who exhibited outstanding qualities of a student-athlete who is a great player to coach. The 2007 coaches’ award went to senior forward Christine Liberto.

 

Ole Miss will return to the pitch for a handful of spring exhibition matches before kicking off the fall 2008 season next August.
