LEXINGTON, Ky. The Ole Miss Rebel rifle team enjoyed a successful weekend posting a record of 2-1, including victories over North Carolina State and UT-Martin and a defeat to host Kentucky.
Ole Miss knocked off North Carolina State by an aggregate score of 4576-4432. Against the Wolfpack, the Rebels were led by senior Shannon Wilson who fired an air rifle score of 587. Others shooting for Ole Miss included Stacie Leatherman (578), Meredith Holman (578), and Erica Swanson (577). Ole Miss finished with a team air rifle score of 2318, while NC State posted a score of 2244.
Wilson also led the way in the smallbore with a score of 576. Meredith Holman (571), Stacie Leatherman (564) and Jessica Hornby (561) rounded out the Rebels’ smallbore roster. Ole Miss finished with a team smallbore score of 2258 to NC State’s 2188.
“I thought we made a lot of strides this weekend,” said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. Shannon really stepped up to the plate for us and shot some great scores. The freshman also really stepped up, particularly Meredith Holman. She posted some great scores. It is exciting. We have made some head way from where we were at the beginning of the year.”
The Rebels continued their success against UT-Martin defeating the Skyhawks by a team aggregate of 4576-4463. Wilson was again the team leader in air rifle with a score of 587. Others shooting in the air rifle for Ole Miss included Stacie Leatherman (578), Meredith Holman (578), and Erica Swanson (577). In the smallbore, Wilson led the way with a score of 576. Other shooters included Meredith Holman (571), Stacie Leatherman (564), and Jessica Hornsby (561).
Ole Miss fell to Kentucky by an aggregate of 4658-4527, with Wilson once again leading the team in air rifle with a score of 588. Other shooters in the air rifle included Meredith Holman (582), Jessica Hornby (581) and Erica Swanson (571). Wilson led in the smallbore with a score of 566. Jessica Hornby (563), Stacie Leatherman (563) and Casey Phillips (558) finished the scoring for the squad.
Ole Miss next travels Jacksonville, Ala. on Nov. 17 for the Gamecock Invitational.
