Three Rebels Named Academic All-District

OXFORD, Miss. - In addition to clinching the program's 11th straight Southeastern Conference Tournament berth on the field, three Ole Miss soccer players were recently rewarded for their hard work in the classroom.

Junior Stacey Emmonds and seniors Cori Mehan and Chrissy Strini were named to ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-District VI third team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The Rebel trio marks the sixth straight year that head coach Steve Holeman's program has produced three or more Academic All-District honorees. Ole Miss has had four Academic All-America selections in program history.

A native of Mirfield, England, Emmonds is a senior academically in just her third year in college. The exercise science major boasts a 3.82 GPA. On the field, she has been an integral member of Ole Miss' offensive attack this season after playing defender her first two years with the Red and Blue. She scored her first career goal on a penalty kick against Alabama on Oct. 7 and has started 22 matches during her career. She is a two-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and has made Dean's or Chancellor's Honor Roll every semester at Ole Miss.

With a 3.88 GPA as an English major, Mehan boasts the top grade point average on the Rebel squad. One of three team captains, the midfielder has started 36 matches in her career. A model all-around student-athlete, Mehan was a member of the 2006 SEC Community Service Team and continues to be involved extensively in the Oxford community. The Cordova, Tenn., native is a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll member and has made UM's Chancellor's Honor Roll all six semesters.

One of the top student-athletes in program history, Strini earns Academic All-District honors for the third straight year. The Cordova, Tenn., native maintains a 3.75 GPA as an exercise science major and has made the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times. The Rebels' leader in goals (5) and points (13) this year, Strini is a two-time All-SEC honoree and 2005 All-American.
