Rebel Netters Tops In Southeast Region

OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss men’s tennis team led the Southeast Region with five players ranked in singles and two teams in doubles according to the ITA fall regional rankings recently released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The Southeast Region is regarded as the nation’s toughest region with six teams finishing the 2007 season ranked among the nation’s top 25.
Senior Matthias Wellermann ended the fall as the No.1 player in the Southeast Region. The Lingen,
Two-time All-American Erling Tveit came in at No. 4. He posted a 9-4 record, including appearances at the All-American Championships and the National Indoor.
All-American Robbye Poole earned a ranking of No. 11 after going 8-4 in the fall, including reaching the semifinals at the Baylor Invitational and the quarterfinals at the Southeast Regional Championships.
Junior Bram ten Berge is ranked No.13 in the region. The 2006 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, posted a 7-4 record and defeated
Sophomore Kalle Norberg, who finished with a 3-3 record, is ranked No. 27.
In doubles, Ole Miss’ Tveit and Jonas Berg earned the top spot in the region after an outstanding fall. Competing together for the first time, the duo won the Baylor Invitational, finished runner-up at the ITA All-American Championships and won the backdraw at the National Indoor on their way to a 12-2 record.
Wellermann teamed up with ten Berge for a No. 4 ranking in doubles. The two posted a 9-3 mark which included a win over the preseason No. 4 team in the nation and a runner-up finish in the Southeast Regional Championships.
The latest singles and doubles national rankings as well as the preseason team rankings will be announced in January.
The Rebels open the 2008 season Jan. 24 at home against Arkansas-Little Rock.
