SEC Tournament Seeding Set for West Champion Rebels

3/4/2007 | Men's Basketball

OXFORD, Miss. -- After earning an SEC Western Division title and a first-round bye in the upcoming conference tournament, Ole Miss now knows its seeding and potential opponent in Friday's second round at Atlanta's Georgia Dome.

By virtue of Mississippi State's victory over Alabama Sunday, the Rebels assume the West No. 2 seed in the tourney and will face the winner of East No. 3 Tennessee and West No. 6 LSU in the late game Friday at 8:45 p.m. CT. An Ole Miss victory would send the team to a semifinal encounter with the winner of Florida and either Georgia or Auburn on Saturday at 2:15 p.m. CT.

The first three days of the SEC Tournament will be televised by Lincoln Financial Sports, and Sunday's noon CT final will be aired on CBS.

Ole Miss defeated Auburn 83-79 Saturday to earn a share of the program's fourth SEC West championship and first since 2001. In his first year at the helm, head coach Andy Kennedy has guided the Rebels to wins in six of their last nine games and posted their most victories -- both overall and in league play -- since 2002.
