BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss senior guards Todd Abernethy and Clarence Sanders have been voted All-SEC by the league coaches, garnering second-team honors as announced Wednesday by the conference office. The duo helped the Rebels to their first SEC Western Division title since 2001.
Abernethy has also garnered AP Honorable Mention All-SEC and NABC All-District honors this season. The three-year Team Captain tops the SEC in assists per game and is second in the NCAA in assist/turnover ratio. He boasts two 20-point games with a pair of double-doubles and averaged 12.3 points in league play.
Abernethy's career also features an SEC Sixth Man of the Year award as a sophomore and an SEC All-Freshman Team selection in 2004. The Carmel, Ind., native ranks top five all-time at Ole Miss in assists and 3-pointers.
A native of Phenix City, Ala., Sanders also picked up All-SEC second team distinction from the AP. He established a school record for single-season 3-pointers and finished first in the SEC in treys in league play.
Sanders leads Ole Miss and ranks fifth in the conference in scoring at 16.5 points per game and posted 10 20-point outings. He directed second-half, game-winning rallies against Tennessee, Alabama, LSU and Auburn.
The Rebels, led by AP SEC Coach of the Year Andy Kennedy, head to the SEC Tournament with a first-round bye and take on the winner of Tennessee and LSU Friday at 8:45 p.m. CT at Atlanta's Georgia Dome.
