Rebels Honored on SEC Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Four Ole Miss student-athletes were distinguished on the 2006-07 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll Tuesday, as announced by league commissioner Mike Slive. 

 

From the Ole Miss rifle team, Casey Phillips, Pam Smith and Shannon Wilson garnered SEC academic honors for the second straight year. Phillips' academic resume also includes the Ole Miss Scholar Athlete of the Year award from the Great American Rifle Conference, while Wilson has been an All-Academic Student-Athlete selection by the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association.

 

Rebel basketball player Todd Abernethy earned his fourth SEC Honor Roll selection. A senior from Carmel, Ind., Abernethy also received first team Academic All-District distinction each of his final two seasons.

 

A total of 341 student-athletes were named to the 2006-07 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll, which is based on grades from the 2006 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.
