Nestled in the heart of Dixie, with magnolias in bloom and the sights and sounds of spring pilgrimage, the Old Waverly golf course is one of the premier courses in the nation.   This week, it will serve as host for the SEC Women’s Golf Championship. For one coach, it will mark a return to a special place.

Lady Rebel head coach Meghan Bolger has accumulated many honors both as a player and coach. As a member of Tulane’s team, Bolger was a three-time All-Conference USA selection and finished 26th at the 2000 NCAA East Regional. She also recorded six top-10 and 11 top-25 finishes throughout her career with the Green Wave.

Since taking the reigns at Ole Miss in 2000, Bolger continues to compete in various tournaments. This past October marked one of the best in her career as she won the U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.  The course she played on -- none other than Old Waverly. Bolger played in eight matches over six days and hardly trailed the entire week.

As the Lady Rebels prepare to play on the same course, the team has finished in the top 10 in half of their events this year.  It’s the consistency of the team that Bolger feels has made the most improvement.

“We’re playing more consistent now,” said Bolger. “We’re also playing with a lot more confidence.”

Confidence and a home-field advantage will hopefully help the Lady Rebels as they look to improve upon last year’s finish in the SEC tournament in Nashville.

“It’s a great course and we’re hoping to represent the state well,” said Bolger. “It’s going to be a great tournament.”

Bolger feels that the familiarity of the course, along with her knowledge and success, will help the team.

“It’s a huge benefit for our team,” she said.  “We’ve had many opportunities to go out there and play on the course and really feel at home.”

Only time will tell for the Lady Rebels, who are looking to improve and end the season on a high note. For Bolger, the task this weekend is simple.

“It’s important for us to have a little bit of knowledge about the course, and I’m going to do everything I can to help them.”

Experience, knowledge and confidence are the keys for the Lady Rebels this weekend at Old Waverly.  They hope to create a little magic of their own just as their coach did six months ago.
