Phillips Earns ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic Honors

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss rifle junior Casey Phillips earned second-team ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, it was announced on Thursday.

 

Phillips, a Clanton, Ala. native, was among nine athletes named to the District VI Academic All-America At-Large second team which covers the states of Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico and includes 12 different sports.

 

Phillips, a team co-captain posted a season average of 567.1 in the air rifle and 545.8 in the smallbore in 2006-07. He air rifle average was fourth best on team last year. She helped led team to first NCAA Championships appearance in school history and seventh place finish in 2006.

 

The journalism major was honored as the Ole Miss Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2006 by Great America Rifle Conference and received All-Academic Student-Athlete honors from the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association for the second straight year. The three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll holds a prefect 4.0 GPA.
